South YorkShire: A Rotherham man who discarded drugs while fleeing from police has been jailed. Hamza Ahmed, 20, was spotted by officers patrolling Eastwood, Rotherham, on 12 December 2024. They saw a group of men on Jennings Close, who quickly ran away.
Police pursued them, and Ahmed was seen throwing items into a garden on Erskine Road. Officers caught up with him and detained him after a brief chase.
Drug Discovery
A search of the garden recovered a chewing gum tub filled with cocaine wraps. Officers also found another tub inside Ahmed’s coat pocket.
It contained approximately £400 worth of heroin and cocaine. Additionally, Ahmed had a machete-style knife tucked into his waistband.
Refusing to Talk
During police questioning, Ahmed provided no explanations. He answered “no comment” to all questions.
The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing a knife in public and two drug-related charges. He admitted to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
Sentencing Details
On 27 February, Sheffield Crown Court sentenced Ahmed to three years and six months in prison. He lived on Cottenham Road, Rotherham, at the time of his arrest.
Detective Sergeant Kyle Fowler, who led the investigation, commented on the case.
Police Statement
“This case sends a strong message to drug dealers. You will be caught and face justice,” said DS Fowler.
“Ahmed wasn’t just dealing drugs—he was armed with a knife. Knife crime brings devastation, and we will take firm action.”
