Bristol: A man convicted of multiple sexual offences against four women has been sentenced to 19-and-a-half years in prison.
Kingsley Balkwill, 27, of Cliff Court Drive, Frenchay, was found guilty of rape and other serious offences.
His crimes occurred between 2018 and 2023, involving emotional and physical coercion.
Balkwill was convicted after two separate trials last year.
The Bristol Crown Court sentenced him and imposed lifelong sex offender registration requirements.
Court’s Statement
The judge criticized Balkwill’s entitled and distorted view of relationships.
He emphasized that consent is essential in all sexual acts.
Women, the judge stated, have the right to say no at any time.
Ignoring consent constitutes a criminal offence.
Balkwill exploited his victims, believing he could take what he wanted.
Victims’ Voices
The victims expressed the lasting trauma of Balkwill’s actions.
One survivor said the attack would affect her for life.
She hoped her report would prevent others from suffering a similar fate.
She also stated Balkwill failed to understand his treatment of women was wrong.
Another survivor spoke about ongoing distress from the assault.
Long-Term Impact
One woman said she still struggles with physical contact and conversations about rape.
She believed the trauma from 2018 would stay with her forever.
Another victim highlighted how Balkwill’s refusal to plead guilty worsened their suffering.
She felt exposed, ashamed, and vulnerable throughout the trial.
However, she gained validation when the jury found him guilty.
No Immediate Relief
One woman said the guilty verdict did not bring immediate relief.
She experienced a mix of emotions rather than joy.
Years of trauma overwhelmed her at once.
She felt both empty and overwhelmed at the same time.
She concluded, “I am not a victim of rape; I am a survivor.”
Police Statement
Detectives praised the victims for their courage.
They credited their bravery for ensuring Balkwill was convicted.
Officers stated sexual violence leaves lifelong scars.
The victims not only sought justice but inspired others.
Their voices helped remove a dangerous man from the streets.
Consent Matters
Police emphasized that consent is non-negotiable in any relationship.
No one has the right to violate another person’s autonomy.
Consent must always be freely given.
Authorities encouraged survivors to speak out and seek support.
Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and empowered.
