LONDON: A UK court has convicted Irfan Sharif and his wife, Beinash Batool, of murdering 10-year-old Sara Sharif.
During the hearing, Irfan Sharif admitted responsibility for the injuries inflicted on Sara using a metal rod, cricket bat, and mobile phone.
Sara’s body was discovered at her Woking home on August 10 last year. Hours before the discovery, her father, uncle, and stepmother had fled to Pakistan. Irfan later called UK emergency services from Pakistan, reporting Sara’s death.
British authorities coordinated with Pakistan for the suspects’ arrest. Upon their return to the UK a month later, all three were taken into custody immediately.
This tragic case highlights the cross-border efforts required to bring justice for Sara.
