ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the deaths of 16 nationals in a boat accident off Libya’s coast. The tragic incident occurred near Zawiya, where a boat carrying migrants capsized. Officials reported that 63 Pakistanis were on board when the disaster struck. Rescuers have recovered 16 bodies so far. The remaining 37 Pakistanis survived the accident.

Survivors and Missing

Out of 37 survivors, 33 are in police custody. One injured survivor is receiving treatment in a hospital. Three others are in Tripoli under the Pakistani embassy’s care. Authorities are searching for 10 missing Pakistanis. Officials are working with Libyan authorities for updates.

Embassy Investigation

A team from the Pakistani Embassy in Tripoli visited Zawiya city. Officials met local authorities and hospital staff to gather information. The embassy confirmed the number of Pakistani victims in the accident. Further investigations are underway. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry remains in contact with Libyan officials.

Identified Victims

The embassy identified the 16 deceased Pakistanis based on their passports. Most of the victims were from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Their families are being informed about the tragic loss. Authorities are arranging the repatriation of remains.

Ongoing Efforts

The Pakistani government is closely monitoring the situation. Efforts continue to verify the missing individuals. The embassy is assisting survivors and coordinating with Libyan authorities. Repatriation of bodies will be arranged soon. The government is expected to provide further updates.
