Manchester: A man accused of stabbing a nurse at Royal Oldham Hospital appeared in court. Roman Haque, 37, is alleged to have attacked Achamma Cherian with scissors on Saturday night. The incident occurred in the hospital’s acute medical unit around 11.30 pm. Haque faces charges of attempted murder and carrying a bladed article in a public place.
Court Hearing Held with No Pleas Entered
Haque appeared in court wearing a grey sweatshirt, flanked by prison officers. Asked for his identity, he stated his name as “Mohammed Roman Haque.” During the brief hearing, his lawyer, Greg Kemp, made no application for bail. Judge Jane Hamilton stated the case would proceed to crown court due to its severity.
Next Appearance Scheduled for Crown Court
Haque is set to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court on February 18. He will remain in custody until the hearing. Detectives continue to investigate the stabbing while offering support to the injured nurse and her family. The victim, a nurse in her 50s, remains hospitalized for treatment.
