RIYADH: Saudi Arabia restated its strong support for Palestinian statehood following comments by U.S. President Donald Trump about Gaza. Trump suggested the U.S. could “take over” Gaza during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry released a statement emphasizing its consistent stance on Palestinian independence and Israeli normalization. Saudi officials made it clear that normalization with Israel requires firm guarantees of Palestinian statehood.

Official Statement

The statement reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. “Saudi Arabia will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel without securing Palestinian rights,” the Foreign Ministry said on X. It called for an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories in line with international law. Saudi Arabia emphasized that sustainable peace requires Palestinians to gain their full rights.

Reactions to U.S.

Trump and Netanyahu expressed optimism that Saudi Arabia and Israel would normalize ties in the future. Netanyahu stated he believed peace between the nations was inevitable. However, Saudi Arabia remained firm in its demand for a Palestinian state before any agreements. The kingdom has consistently upheld its position, rejecting pressures to shift its policies on the matter.

Arab Nations’ Response

Several Arab nations, including Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, and the UAE, also opposed Trump’s earlier remarks on Gaza’s future. They issued a statement rejecting any displacement of Palestinians from the enclave. Their joint message underscored the need to rebuild Gaza while protecting Palestinian residency. The countries stressed that forced displacement contradicts international humanitarian principles.

Saudi Leadership

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has previously affirmed the kingdom’s firm position regarding Palestinian rights. He has repeatedly stated that normalization with Israel is contingent upon Palestinian statehood. The Saudi leadership remains committed to peace efforts that prioritize justice for the Palestinian people. Any diplomatic moves will align with international resolutions on the conflict.

Global Concerns

International bodies and human rights organizations have expressed concern over forced displacements in Gaza. Many have called for renewed peace efforts to ensure stability in the region. Saudi Arabia continues working with allies to push for a resolution based on Palestinian sovereignty. The kingdom remains a vocal advocate for Palestinian self-determination on the world stage.
