WASHINGTON:  Selena Gomez shared an emotional reaction to immigration sweeps conducted by the Trump administration but later deleted her posts. The Mexican-American singer and actress expressed her heartbreak over the impact of these actions on immigrant families.

Selena’s Tearful Video Message

On Monday morning, Selena Gomez posted a video on her Instagram story, visibly upset by the weekend’s immigration enforcement blitz. Fighting tears, she said, “All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry.”

She further expressed feelings of helplessness, saying, “I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I’ll try everything, I promise.” The video included the text “I’m sorry” along with a Mexican flag emoji.

Shortly after posting, she added another story, writing, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.” This follow-up post was also deleted.

Trump Administration’s Immigration Blitz

Over the weekend, federal agencies launched a large-scale immigration enforcement operation, leading to 956 arrests on Sunday alone. According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), these raids targeted individuals labeled as public safety or national security threats.

Enforcement actions occurred across several regions, including Chicago, Texas, Georgia, California, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. By Monday, more than 1,100 arrests had been made, with operations still ongoing.

Multiple agencies, including Homeland Security, ICE, and the Justice Department, participated in the coordinated effort. Officials claim these raids align with Trump’s promise to secure borders and protect public safety.

Tom Homan Responds to Gomez’s Posts

Tom Homan, a senior border official, addressed Gomez’s emotional video during an appearance on Fox News Monday evening. Homan criticized Gomez for focusing only on the raids while overlooking other issues connected to immigration.

“Why isn’t she crying for families who lost loved ones to fentanyl coming across our borders?” Homan questioned. He also referenced children illegally smuggled into the U.S. and exploited through trafficking, though he cited inaccurate claims on these topics.

Homan argued that Trump’s immigration policies aim to prevent such tragedies and ensure the safety of American citizens.

Public Reaction to Gomez’s Posts

Gomez’s video drew mixed reactions. Some applauded her for highlighting the plight of immigrants, while others accused her of ignoring other aspects of the border crisis. Her temporary posts have reignited debates on balancing empathy with security in addressing immigration challenges.

Selena’s Influence Sparks Discussion

As a prominent figure in entertainment, Gomez’s statements have amplified discussions around the human cost of immigration policies. While her posts were deleted, their message resonates with many who are deeply affected by these actions.
