Targeted Attack Claims Life of Brian Thompson Outside NY Hilton
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot Wednesday morning in midtown Manhattan, just outside the New York Hilton Hotel. Thompson, dressed in a suit and tie, was en route to attend UnitedHealthcare’s annual investor conference in the hotel’s ballroom when the incident occurred.

According to investigators, the gunman had been waiting for Thompson’s arrival before opening fire from approximately 20 feet away. Multiple shots were fired, striking Thompson in what authorities believe was a targeted attack.

Shooter Flees Scene, Prompting Manhunt

The assailant reportedly escaped on a bicycle, fleeing westward through alleys near West 54th and 55th Streets. NYPD detectives are reviewing security footage from the area to trace the suspect’s escape route.

During a press briefing, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny described the suspect as a light-skinned male wearing a light brown or cream-colored jacket, a black face mask, black and white sneakers, and a distinctive gray backpack. The shooter was last spotted early Wednesday morning near Center Drive in Central Park.

Community Mourns a Respected Leader

UnitedHealth Group issued a heartfelt statement following the tragedy:
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Brian Thompson, a respected colleague and dear friend. Brian was an integral part of our organization, and his death is a tremendous loss to all who knew him. We are cooperating with the NYPD and ask for patience as investigations continue. Our thoughts are with Brian’s family during this difficult time.”

Brian Thompson’s wife, Paulette Thompson, also shared her grief in a statement:

“We are devastated by the senseless killing of our beloved Brian. He was a loving, generous, and talented man, a devoted father to our two sons, and someone who brought joy to so many. We ask for privacy as we navigate this unimaginable loss.”

Reward Offered for Information

To assist in the ongoing investigation, NYPD Crime Stoppers has announced a reward of up to $10,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible.
