Kyiv: Zelensky resigning for peace is a possibility if it ensures Ukraine’s security or helps the country gain NATO membership, he said.

Zelensky Open to Leaving Presidency

In a recent interview, Zelensky was asked what assurances he needed from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the ongoing war. He responded by saying he would happily give up his position if it meant peace.

“Yes, I am happy if it is for the peace of Ukraine,” he said. “If you need me to leave this chair, I am ready to do that, and I also can exchange it for NATO membership for Ukraine.”

Ukraine’s Security Comes First

Zelensky emphasized that his main concern is Ukraine’s security, not long-term political ambitions. He dismissed the idea of remaining in power for a decade, saying leadership is not about personal dreams but about protecting the nation.

NATO Membership: A Key Goal

Ukraine has long sought NATO membership, seeing it as a way to guarantee security against future Russian aggression. However, joining the alliance remains a complex and politically sensitive issue. Zelensky’s willingness to step aside if it helps Ukraine become part of NATO shows his commitment to national security over personal power.

A Critical Moment for Ukraine

As the war continues, Ukraine faces uncertainty about future leadership, military support, and diplomatic negotiations. Zelensky’s remarks highlight his focus on ending the conflict while securing Ukraine’s place on the global stage.

With international allies watching closely, his readiness to sacrifice his presidency could shape Ukraine’s path to peace and stability.
