Bangkok: A Thai woman, dubbed the “serial killer” by local media, has been sentenced to death for poisoning 14 of her friends over a span of several years. 36-year-old Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn was found guilty of using poison to murder her victims, many of whom she allegedly targeted to settle debts related to her online gambling addiction.
According to reports, Sararat would borrow money from her friends and, after killing them with poison, would steal their belongings, including jewelry and mobile phones. Investigators discovered traces of poison in the body of one of her victims, a close friend, whom she murdered in April 2022 at a gathering in Bangkok. Following the investigation, police determined that Sararat had been involved in the deaths of 14 individuals between 2015 and 2022.
In the most recent case, Sararat was convicted for the murder of her friend, who passed away shortly after their meeting in Bangkok. Authorities found the presence of poison in the woman’s system, leading to Sararat’s arrest.
The court’s verdict comes after a detailed investigation into the woman’s financial motives, as some victims had lent her substantial amounts of money, including a sum of 300,000 Thai Baht. The murder spree was said to be driven by Sararat’s desperate need to pay off her gambling debts.
