ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the suspension of the proposed ban on bringing multiple mobile phones into Pakistan.

According to Geo News, the Chairman of FBR instructed the withdrawal of proposed amendments to the Customs Baggage Rules 2006, halting the implementation of the ban on carrying more than one mobile phone.

Sources indicate that under the current 2006 rules, travelers arriving from abroad are still permitted to bring up to two mobile phones.

Additionally, the FBR Chairman has also directed the withdrawal of the proposed restriction on bringing commercial goods worth over $1,200, and instructed that the amendments be reconsidered after further consultation.

Earlier this week, FBR had issued a notification regarding changes to the baggage scheme, which had included a decision to impose a complete ban on bringing commercial quantities of goods into the country. The new rules had also allowed travelers to bring only one mobile phone for personal use from abroad.
