TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accused the US and Israel of orchestrating the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
In his first comments since Assad’s exile, Khamenei claimed a joint US-Israeli conspiracy, offering no concrete evidence.
“We have evidence that leaves no room for doubt,” Khamenei said, though he did not provide details.
Iran’s support for Assad weakened with his fall, impacting its regional influence. Khamenei also referenced Syria’s “neighbor” in the plot.
While unnamed, the reference likely pointed to Turkey, which has supported anti-Assad groups during the conflict.
