RIYADH: The Traffic Department has revealed that the most common cause of traffic accidents in 2023 was the use of mobile phones while driving. According to the department, using a mobile phone behind the wheel is a serious traffic violation and can lead to heavy fines.

The department also listed other major causes of accidents. The second most common reason was sudden lane changes without signaling. The third leading cause was not maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
