Musk, via his social media platform X, accused Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer of failing to prosecute grooming gangs during his tenure as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Musk also suggested that safeguarding minister Jess Phillips should face jail time for rejecting calls for a national inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Oldham.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting countered Musk’s comments, labeling them “misjudged and certainly misinformed.”Streeting highlighted the government’s dedication to addressing child sexual exploitation and carrying out the recommendations from Professor Alexis Jay’s Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA).
“Criticisms made by Elon Musk are off the mark,” said Streeting during a visit to Carlisle. “But if Musk wants to collaborate with us to address these grave issues using his platform, we welcome his involvement.”

In her defense, Phillips highlighted the importance of empowering local councils to address these issues effectively, citing successful inquiries in Rotherham and Telford.
