Canberra: Australia has passed a groundbreaking bill that bans children under the age of 16 from using social media platforms.
The bill was approved in the House of Representatives with a significant majority, receiving 102 votes in favor and 13 against. If it is approved by the Senate, the legislation will require social media platforms to implement a security system within one year to prevent children from accessing these sites.
According to international reports, if social media platforms fail to comply with the new regulations, they could face fines of up to $33 million AUD.
This bill, once passed by the Senate, will become the world’s first law of its kind, marking a significant step in global efforts to protect minors from the risks associated with social media use.
