Sharjah: India’s consulate in Dubai has extended its support to the families of nine Indian nationals who tragically died in a bus crash in Sharjah’s Khor Fakkan area on Sunday night. Three other Indian nationals, among over 70 injured in the incident, are in critical condition.
The bus, which was transporting 83 workers from an Ajman-based construction company, overturned after its brakes reportedly failed while nearing a roundabout. The workers, originally from India, had spent the day off in Khor Fakkan and were on their way back after collecting free food supplies from their employer’s head office.
S Madani, chairman of Khor Fakkan’s Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre, confirmed the tragic news, stating, “All nine victims are Indian nationals, and three are in critical condition.”
The injured are receiving medical care in hospitals across Khor Fakkan and Fujairah for injuries sustained to their heads and limbs. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased are undergoing autopsy before being embalmed and sent back to India.
The Indian Consulate in Dubai released a statement about Sharjah expressing its commitment to supporting the victims’ families and working closely with local authorities. Officials have already visited the injured in hospitals and are facilitating the repatriation of the deceased.
Sharjah Police identified the cause of the accident as brake failure. They have issued a call to companies to ensure proper maintenance of vehicles, urging them to comply with safety standards, particularly in areas with winding roads and intersections.
