LONDON: King Charles III’s cancer treatment is progressing well, with positive developments nearly one year into his battle.
A source close to Buckingham Palace informed NBC News on Friday that the King’s cancer treatment is “moving in a positive direction.” However, the monarch’s health remains in a “managed condition,” indicating treatment will continue into the next year.
King Charles’ Battle with Cancer
Buckingham Palace had confirmed King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis in February, just 18 months into his reign. The 76-year-old monarch chose to publicly acknowledge his illness to encourage understanding for those affected worldwide. Despite this, specific details about his condition have not been disclosed.
Following the confirmation of his diagnosis, King Charles took a brief step back from public duties. However, in April, he returned to his royal duties, resuming public engagements after progress in his treatment.
Cancer Diagnosis in the Royal Family
In a separate event in January 2024, Kate, the Princess of Wales, revealed she had been hospitalized for abdominal surgery. Initial tests suggested no cancer presence, but later testing confirmed she had cancer.
Kate made this rare video statement, breaking her silence and acknowledging the health struggles she had been facing. The video statement, addressed to the public, marked her first acknowledgment of the challenges she had encountered regarding her diagnosis.
Prince William expressed that 2024 has been an incredibly difficult year, describing it as “probably the hardest year in my life.” In a statement, he revealed the emotional weight of both his wife’s and father’s health battles.
Kate’s Treatment and Recovery Progress
Kate, 41, confirmed she completed her chemotherapy treatment in September. The Princess expressed her plans to resume light public engagements through the remainder of the year.
